He worked in several different capacities throughout his teaching career as well as coaching Boy's Basketball, leading Boy Scouts and 4-H projects. He worked at Lakeland Village from 1955 to 1984. He had many interests—sports, humanities, geology, plant life, antiques, and a good cookie but the true loves of his life were his many beloved pets, smoking his pipes, and his avid reading of books. Services for Gene will be held at 1:00 p.m. on January 4 at St John's Lutheran Church in Medical Lake, 223 S Hallett St

Judith Ann Weideman-Lindsey was born April 24, 1945 and passed away with her husband by her side on December 29, 2013. Judy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Douglas Lindsey, her son, Brian Lindsey, her daughter, Julie Lindsey-Jasper, her son in-law, Lane Jasper, her grandson, Nicholas Lindsey and her sister, Christine. Judy had several brother and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends who loved her as well. Judy was a mighty force whose heart and love shined upon all that were fortunate enough to know her. She will be sorely missed. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the home of Jerry and Kathy Peterson. Leo Kincaid passed away at the Hospice House of Spo-kane. Leo lost his battle of liver failure that was caused by Mr. Kincaid serving in the Army to protect our country. Leo was very outgoing and always had a smile on his face. Leo loved to race out at the State Line Speedway. Leo was a truck driver for CSS in Medical Lake Wa. Where he retired from.He left behind his step father Robert Jones and step mother Tammy Erickson and two daughters Dena Humfleet of Crabtree Oregon and Dawn Houghton of Springdale Wa. Two brothers Dennis and David and three sisters Nancy and Pam and Judy, and 5 grandchildren Michael, James, Christianna, Ryan, Brittany. Leo will be very missed. Leo and his wife Jean Kincaid lived in Medical lake Wa for over 39 years.

[br][br]Shirley Lewellen born in Chehalis WA succumbed to her nearly 3 year battle with cancer on January 2, 2014. Shirley was a resident of Spokane for 38 years. She enjoyed the active outdoor lifestyle Spokane offers, cross country skiing, mountain bike riding and she was an avid golfer. Shirley ran her first Bloomsday Marathon at the age of 52. Up until the last 6 months of her life you could find Shirley at the North Spokane Fitness Club most mornings. Shirley retired from Whitworth University in 2003. Shirley is survived by her 4 children Dennis Lewellen of Spokane WA, Craig Lewellen of Portland OR, Karen Lewellen of Los Angeles CA and Steve Lewellen of Medical Lake WA. Vange Henrietta Rein Schimpf, 86, of Spokane WA, was reunited with her husband, Henry Garfield Schimpf, in the house of the Lord on Jan 7, 2014. She was born on June 6, 1927 in Lewiston Idaho. Vange enjoyed a lively and spiritual life, and was loved by many. She is survived by her children Gary, Debbi, Martin, Paul, Michael, and Brian, along with 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mass will be given at St. Mary's Church, Spokane Valley, on Fri Jan 17, 2pm, followed by an interment service at Holy Cross Cemetery, Spokane, on Jan 18, 10am.

[br][br]John passed away on January 2nd 2014 at the Hospice House in Spokane, after a battle with cancer. John was born in Spokane on June 10th 1965 to Gilbert and Teresa Alderman. Survivors include daughter Brenda Nichole Dugan and two grandchildren, Derrick and Edward Dugan, of Sweet Home, Oregon. He leaves behind his mother Teresa Alderman, three sisters, Mary Harris, Margaret Metcalf, and Teresa Alderman, along with two brothers Michael and James Alderman, two brother-in-laws, Ken Harris and Fred Metcalf, one sister-in-law Annette Alderman, one nephew, Jared Reed and four nieces, Felicia, Makayla, Martia, and Sierra, along with numerous cousins, aunts and uncles and good friend of the family Sharon Franklin. There is no service planned at this time. John will be deeply missed by everyone who loved him . He will forever be in our hearts

[br][br]Alexander James Rice, 22, Spokane, WA, after a 20-month battle with brain cancer. A 2010 graduate of Lewis and Clark H.S., he was an avid rock climber, training and competing at the national level. Alex lived life; he skate boarded, snow boarded, wake boarded, water skied, snow skied, camped, biked, hiked, motorcycled, surfed, and just liked being out in the wilderness. He loved to fix things, take them apart, and repair them. He hated spending money unnecessarily. Alex invested a lot of time repairing and modifying his '89 Toyota 4-Runner, but would rather ride one of his bicycles. He once biked to Canada and back with a good friend. He rock climbed with his close friends in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Nevada, Utah and Colorado. He loved Priest Lake and Chimney Rock. After brain surgery and radiation: he hiked to the top of Mt. Charleston, a very high peak in Nevada, like it was a day in the park; he hiked the rain and bamboo forests of Hawaii with his sister Jasmine; he snorkeled with the sea turtles with his brother Owen and sister Ella. They adored their "big brother Alex" who could do anything. We all adored Alex and will miss him tremendously. Survived by his loving family; mother Jacquita Rogers (Matthew Inman), father Tom Rice (Heather), sisters Jasmine Perez (Stan and daughter Nayeli) and Ella Rice, brother Owen Rice, and grandparents, and his devoted friends in the rock climbing community, especially his girlfriend Sarah Moeser. Private cremation. Memorial celebration of his life to be held this spring at Deep Creek, one of his favorite rock climbing walls.

Richard was born to Shioji and Matsu Yamamoto on September 4, 1922 and passed away on December 31, 2013. He spent his entire life in Spokane, Washington and was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School in 1941. While in high school, he was an avid athlete. His friends remember him being a strong swimmer, an active Boy Scout, and a football offensive linesman. However, his main passion was judo and was a sounding member of Spokane Seiki Kan Dojo and a life member of the U.S. Judo Federation. Dick's dedication to judo earned him his 7th degree black belt, a level rarely achieved by judokas. He was a highly regarded judo representative on the local and national level. Over the course of his 60+ years in judo, he taught hundreds of students and earned certification as a national referee. He worked in construction as an electrician and eventually became the electrical inspector for the city of Spokane. During his career and retired life, he was a 60+ year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and a member of the local electrical union #73. He was a member the Highland Park United Methodist Church and member of the Spokane chapter of the Japanese American Citizen League. He is survived by his wife, Kazuye, and children, Dale (Louise), Karen (Mark), Clyde (Elaine) and DeAnn; sister-in-law Kimi Yamamoto; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and other extended families. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Edward and Floyd Yamamoto. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Harbor Crest Senior Living Center and Hospice of Spokane. They were instrumental in Dick's care as he battled lymphoma in his final days. There will be a private family memorial service at a later date. Inurnment will be held at the family niche at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue, Washington.

Perry Shepherd was born 1/20/1955 in Seoul, Korea as Kim Soong-Ho. He was adopted by Huey and Lillian Shepherd and grew up in Springdale, Washington. After High School, he joined the Navy and served several years in Chinhae, South Korea. Perry legally changed his name back to Soong-Ho Kim after leaving the Navy. He died as Genghis Kim, having legally changed his name again several years ago. He passed away on 12/31/2013 after 13 years of battling cancer. He is survived by his wife of 20 years,Young-Hui Kim, and two daughters, Lorie Ann Shepherd and Stephanie Marie Morris--all from the Tacoma area; his older sister, Marti (Shepherd) Wong of Tigard, Oregon; and various other relatives, primarily in Washington and Oregon, also in New York.
